How do I register my company?
In registering your company, you will have to approach Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), a body responsible for incorporation of companies. Though having its headquarters situated at Abuja, there are branches all over regions nationally.
You will have to obtain the CAC FORM 1. this is called THE AVAILABILITY CHECK AND RESERVATION OF NAMES form. This form will be filled by you as it will be what the body (CAC) will use to search if the names (two names must be filled in form) provided are still available. If the names are still available, you go on with your first choice name and proceed with the registration in full. once the name or names is or are available, a notice will be sent to you and the name will be reserved for a period of sixty days, if not claimed, it will be made available for others.
Once the name is given to you, you can then proceed to fill other necessary forms that will be given to you by the body, thereafter you proceed to pay necessary fees. After all these are achieved, your registration Certificate will be issued to you. You are then licensed to start operating as a company. Please not that it is best you get an expert to do this for you. preferably, a Legal Practitioner.
in addition to the above reply by Mr Adegboye, Availability Check and Reservation of Name is now done online. If you are going to be registering a Limited Liability Company, you will have to consult an Accredited Legal Practitioner or an Accountant (Preferably a Legal Practitioner) with the Commission (CAC). You will also pay the stamp duties fee for your Memoart and Authorized Share Capital form CAC 2 at the Federal Inland Revenue Service which will later be submitted at CAC. Other CAC forms that will be submitted at CAC before your company can be registered are Particulars of Directors form CAC 7; Particulars of Secretary form CAC 2.1; Notice of Situation/Change of Registered Office of the Company form CAC 3 and Declaration of Compliance with the requirement of CAMA form CAC 4. After consideration of the above documentation by CAC, then a Certificate of Incorporation will be issued confirming the registration of your company.
